Basic Speed Breeding Training Course
IWWIP organized a “Basic Speed Breeding Training”
funded by CIMMYT which took place from November 13th to 17th, 2023, in Izmir,
Türkiye. There were 11 researchers who participated in the program from Türkiye,
Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Azerbaijan. The course aimed to equip
participants with a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental operational procedures
involved in Speed Breeding, offering both technical expertise and practical
knowledge.
During the training program, participants had a chance to gain wider knowledge on Speed Breeding Cycle Management, SB Protocols and Strategies as well as Pedigree Data Registration & Reporting and Enterprise Breeding Systems. The program facilitated interactions with scientists from both IWWIP and CIMMYT HQ in Mexico, providing a diverse range of insights and expertise.
The participants frequently practiced the information they learned in the class on crossing, planting, vernalization, and harvesting at Greenhouse and Growth Room conditions.
Participants expressed their desire for the
continuation of the training program in the future for other researchers in the
region and they went back to their institutes with lots of knowledge to
implement in their breeding activities.
